Combined Central and Wellington District Associations Brass Band Contest in Wellington.

Coming up on the weekend of 8th & 9th September 2018, Wellington is hosting the Combined Central and Wellington District Associations Brass Band Contest.

Every two years both district associations come together and battle it out.

On Saturday the 8th, each band will play their Hymn & Test piece.

On Sunday the 9th, each band will present a half hour entertainment programme.

The contest will be held at St Patrick’s College, 581 Evans Bay Parade, Kilbirnie, Wellington

Band times to follow.

Training Band

No previous musical experience is required, although the ability to read music is beneficial. Children 9 and over, and adults are all welcome.

Training band rehearses from 5pm – 6pm on Monday nights during school terms. at the Feilding Brass bandroom in Council Place, Feilding.

Lessons are held before rehearsal. The band does 1-2 performances a year which are arranged well in advance.

Our Youth in Banding

One great thing about playing in a musical group is not just playing a tune, its also about learning, no matter how old you are.

At senior band rehearsal tonight, percussionist Steve is showing new percussionist Sarah the correct technique for doing a cymbal roll.

Good to see the young ones interested in music, and the more experienced players willing to teach their skill.

2018 National Contest – Blenheim

A very successful week was held in from 11-15 July 2018 where brass bands from around NZ converged on Blenheim to compete against each other in their respective grades and have a catch up of banding friends.

Coming up between 12-15 July are the New Zealand Brass Band Championships 2018 being held in Blenheim.

5 Feilding Brass players are helping Levin & Districts Brass in the C Grade competition.

Shave For A Cure 2018

On Saturday 7th July 2018 Feilding Brass played at, Eb Bass player Nigel Towers & nephew Rhyan Brownie’s Shave For A Cure event which was held at the Feilding Public Library.

With pieces like Uptown Funk, Ghostbusters to Fly Me To The Moon, the performance was well received by the audience and Library staff.

Even the Manawatu District Mayor, Helen Worboys who is the Patron of Feilding Brass got in on the proceedings by shaving some of Nigel’s beard off.

Well done to Nigel and Rhyan and to Feilding Brass for another entertaining mini concert.

Upcoming Event – Shave For A Cure

Saturday 7th July 2018 at 10.30am, Nigel Towers (Eb Bass player) and 7 year old step-nephew Rhyan, are Shaving For A Cure at the Feilding Public Library. Nigel will be shaving his hair and beard. Come on down and be part of it.

Feilding Brass will be providing entertainment before the event, from 10.00am.
